make:photos

When I was learning German at school, my teacher pointed out to us that while in English we might "take a photo" in most languages they "make a photo." As I learn more about photography I feel this terminology is probably more appropriate. You spend time composing the shot, thinking about light and depth of field. A lot can go into a good photo and merely taking it seems to subtract something from that effort.

I've had my camera outside today - making some photos. I have a long way to go but I try not to let that overwhelm me and stop me from trying.

Summer has finally made an appearance around here - just in time for Autumn. Our neighbours' gardens are all in full bloom, creating some appropriate subject matter for my photography, and the temperatures have been peaking above 30C since last week. While I am wishing for cooler nights, I'm not quite ready for the warm weather to leave. Cool days and cold nights are just around the corner and I don't like being cold. I've definitely enjoyed the mild summer we've had up until now. And, as the newspaper pointed out a few weeks ago - with such mild weather everyone's electricity bills will be lower - no complaints here.

day nineteen:make a photo instead of taking it.
