At the beginning of the each of the last three years I've made (read: created a photo collage in Picasa and added some text) a desktop background using photos and my one little word for the year. I find it to be a good way to display photos I love and a good reminder of what I'm trying to achieve - particularly when I spend so much time in front of my computer. This started when I was still at uni and using my own laptop a lot. It's less effective now that most of my computer time is logged on a work pc but I'm keeping up the tradition.
We were away for the first half of January and then I went straight back to work. I noticed my old background still there the other day (do you ever find yourself tuning these things out?) and figure March is still close to the beginning of the year, so today I made this year's background. And it's a little different to normal. And took longer. And there's some imperfections. But that's ok. It will serve it's purpose. It makes me happy. And it's a style of photo I've wanted to try for a while.
I'd be lying if I said it took me less than 300 shots to get one I was mostly happy with. If I want to make a photobook like this then it's going to take practice! And a good lighting set up.
In this photo is a pair of Marbig scissors, a photo I love from our trip, held down by MT washi tape, glitter in a tube that must be older than me, my 1/4 cup measure, a journal card from Project Life, the roll of washi tape, the very beginning of something knitted, some blue paint with a cracked lid and my favourite Bostik 'glu tape.' The letters are all chipboard and are 4 or 5 years old. The first one is inked in sky blue then navy, I wrapped some string around the 'A,' used the glue runner to cover the 'k' before sprinkling blue glitter and coloured in the 'e' with a silver Sharpie paint pen.
day twenty : make a desktop background from a staged photo
