know thyself:Nosce te ipsum

I'm currently participating in a fitness challenge at work. Unfortunately it's a bit more than a challenge and I'm slightly overwhelmed. However, I'm still doing my best to pull my weight in my team - which I guess is the point. So the other afternoon, with still 10km (of a weekly 20km) left to earn before midnight, B put on a movie and I sat on our recumbent bike and peddled for the first 85 minutes of The Matrix. I think I've seen it before but lately people have been quoting it and talking about it so I figured I'd better see it again.

27km later I had earnt a measly 5km for the challenge.I collapsed on the lounge and watched the last part in comfort.

Half way through the movie when Neo goes to see the Oracle she points to a sign over the door "Temet nosce" - it means know thyself in Latin. A quick google search finds the more common latin phrase is "Nosce te ipsum." This was the last place I expected to see those words. However I was grateful that they were there. They're driving some of the changes I'm choosing to make this year and they piqued my interest in the movie. There was no moment of profound understanding. Just more awareness.

Day eleven: be more aware
