goals:february

I'm not much of a new years resolution type person. I'm always in holiday mode on January 1st and have very little inclination to do anything major, apart from hang a new calendar. And to be completely honest, this doesn't even happen - Google Calendar just ticks over to the next year for me. Also, we were traveling on 1/1/2012 and setting goals while out of my normal environment wasn't for me.

When I got home and was catching up on my Google Reader  feed I read Elise Cripe's post about her monthly goals. Presumably setting monthly goals instead of yearly ones is not a completely new idea but, while reading her post, something just clicked for me. Thanks, Elise! So, on January 17th, 2012 I set some goals for January and then promptly got sick.

January
Walk 20km : I walked 2.6km out of 20km. I did however spend lots of time napping on the lounge.
Finish my December Daily : Yes! I did some journaling for the days up until we left the country and then chose to finish the album there. My other year's albums (2009 and 2010) go right through til 1st Jan, however I happily wrapped this one up before Christmas this year and it doesn't bother me at all.
Start my travel album : Yes! Once I'd finished my December Daily album I went and had photos printed for the first 4 days we were away. I have started putting them together with all the stuff I saved and journaling I did on my iPod while traveling but am yet to get an actual album. For now I'm just slipping photos, journaling, pamphlets, tickets, maps and receipts in page protectors, Project Life style. This format is perfect for a travel album and am really enjoying the process.
Follow three new recipes : I tried one new recipe out of three. B did a lot of the cooking because I was sick and back at work full time so after fitting in a nap and some lounge time, it didn't leave much time left for experiments in the kitchen. However, Katie invited me over to try a recipe off the back of a condensed milk tin. Yum.
Sort Guide folder into two folders : My overflowing folder is still sitting under the coffee table. Maybe next month.
Take a photo everyday : 30/31. I came so close! But missed 31st Jan. Oh well. The first 2 weeks of the month were easy. I probably took 200-300 photos every day. The second half of the month was less interesting as we were back in our own space. Still, I'm glad I have those photos. Our everyday changes a little bit all the time until it evolves into something completely different without us really being aware. These photos will be interesting to look back on in a couple of months.

February
Walk 80km : This is part of a fitness challenge for work. Fortunately other forms of exercise count.
Go to a gym class at least once a week : I enjoy the gym when I go, but often anxiety prevents me from taking that initial step out the door. Getting into the habit makes it easier.
Try three new recipes : Hopefully I get more of a chance to cook this month.
Listen to one audiobook : Tsh from Simple Mom linked to Books Should be Free in her Weekend Links post last weekend. This idea excites me. I love audiobooks but I can never justify the money. This gives me a chance to see if I can fit something new into my life without making too much of a financial commitment.
Take a photo everyday : continuing towards my 365 goal. It doesn't worry me if I miss a day here and there.

Today
I made progress on my gym class goal. After all it was Friday and I was running out of time to fit in a class this week. I have been to Body Balance before but not for months. And it was a lot harder than I remember.

Note to self: eat something more substantial than fruit before my next class.

Day two: make it to the gym.
