make:something

I did it! I sat down and told one story.  I picked one little thing that was on my mind and did a page about it.  And boy does it make me happy! It will only get easier from here.

This was inspired by a "favourite  place" challenge at 2peas. What about you? What does it take to break your procrastination and get you making stuff?

blue:sky

I went for a walk at lunch today. The sky was so blue and the temperature was perfect.

Tonight I want to make something but my desk is covered in stuff. Got a crazy weekend ahead but can hopefully find some time for fun stuff.

welcome:may

Hello May.  Nice to see  you. Although the cold nights and short days you bring aren't all that fantastic.
April kind of got away from me. It started when I got sick in March. Then lazy. Then sick again. Then super busy and ended up with me choosing to leave this sit here for a little while.  Hopefully with a change of self inflicted rules I'll be back here more regularly with some more memory keeping and food to share!

project:travel album 1

My plan was to spend last night & all day today on my USA travel album. But that didn't happen. Life got in the way. Nevertheless, I'm slowly but surely making progress. I'm still on day six (of twenty) but I'm happy with how it's coming together. Today was documenting our helicopter ride, visit to the Clark County Museum and the Ethel M Chocolate factory before heading to the Rio to see Penn & Teller. A very busy day that somehow has to be fitted in. I'm finding the pocket page protectors brilliant for slipping photos & tickets into. I'm printing out journaling the that I wrote on my iPod at the time and adding it into the pockets as well. - loving this!! So many things that I've already forgotten about are now included in my album.

The goal is to have it all put together by next weekend to take when we visit B's family. I'll be out every week night before we leave so I can't see it happening. Doesn't stop me trying.

Day thirty-one : make a page about our time in Nevada.

sometimes:timeout

So much for getting back into the whole creative thing this week. Last Thursday one of the girls at work shared a nice cold/flu type thing with half our team and it's really knocked me around. I've been sleeping solidly at night then fitting in another 2 or 3 hours sleep around lunchtime. I have a feeling that this routine is going to be rudely interrupted tomorrow when I attempt to stay at work all day. But until then, it's serving me well. The downside is, I'm still exhausted and this doesn't lend itself to achieving anything - house cleaning, scrapbooking, washing, photo taking, etc etc. However, I've embraced that (the house cleaning more than anything else) and am taking the time I need to recover instead, no matter how frustrating that may be. Until then, here's a picture I took in Monterey, CA during our trip in January.

decorate:table runner

We had a Hawaiian themed dinner the other night and after the girls finished making their hula skirts we had a lot of small pieces of crepe paper streamers left over. Instead of just throwing them straight in the bin, I used them for a table runner.

First I got a big long piece of crepe paper and tied it so it stretched the length of our (really long) table.

Then I got the girls to help me tie all the short pieces of crepe streamers down the length of the table.

Result - not the classiest table decos, but very colourful and the girls thought it was awesome.

Day thirty : make a table runner

choose:photos

I've been reading about procrastination lately and one of the things that keeps coming up is about fear. Fear of not knowing how to finish and consequentially, not starting. This week I've spent a lot of my spare time going through our 4000 photos from the USA and choosing the ones I want to add to the album I'm making. Sure - I've no idea how I'm going to finish it, what the cover page will look like or any of that. But I've started with a task I can do and I'll figure out the rest as I go. Right now, all our photos from the Grand Canyon are spread out across the length of my desk as I wait for some inspiration on how to fit them all onto 2 or 3 12x12 pages in my album.  I think I'm going to have to compromise somehow!

Day twenty-nine : make a start by printing photos
